This has been a week of sleep!! Yay! Tucker has been a great night time sleeper since we got back from Duluth when he was about 2 months old, so we have no complaints there. He has been going to bed around 6 pm for awhile now. If he naps really well, sometimes we let him stay up until 7 and if he doesn't nap then he goes to bed around 5:30. This week, he has only been getting up once to eat (usually at 11:30 pm on the dot) and getting up for the day around 7:30 or 8. Yes, that's right, sometimes we get to sleep in until after 8am and we have an almost 6 month old. We know we're lucky.
I've written about our nap struggles before, but I think he's finally got it figured out. I've read more baby and parenting books than I care to admit (I had to start a new "baby book" shelf in our office), and I've read so much advice and research about sleep training that I could probably write a book myself. I've asked everybody with kids what the secret to napping is, and we've tried most of the advice that I've received. I still don't know what the napping secret is, but I do know that our little boy is now part of the "three nap per day" club!! I had three days off with Tucker last week (that's the good part of working weekends), and he took 3 naps per day in his crib!!! Each nap lasted about an hour. We were at my parents' house this weekend while I worked, and he did nap in his Pack and Play but it's always a more restless sleep. But, today he made up for it! He napped for over two hours straight this morning plus took his two afternoon naps.
With all of the sleep that Tucker is getting, it seems that there can't be much time for anything else but he has been busy! He is able to sit for long stretches. Basically, he sits until he wants to kick on his back or stretch out on his tummy. He has started to try to pull himself up to a standing position while sitting on his play mat, and he will stand holding onto a chair for about 30 seconds if we help him get up. I can't believe how strong he is!
