What a week!! Little Tucker has been busy celebrating his half birthday, getting baptized, and fighting off a nasty respiratory bug. Last Friday, Tucker turned 6 months old, so we celebrated with his first solid food. He got to try bananas for the first time, and he actually seemed to like them. He ate at least a tablespoon, which I thought was pretty good for the first try. Last Thursday and Friday, Tucker had a little bit of a cough. A couple kids at daycare had been diagnosed with RSV, so we kept a close eye on him and tried to get him extra sleep but it didn't seem to get any worse. He wasn't quite as smiley as usual, but he wasn't fussy so we figured it was just a cold. On Saturday, we desperately needed to find him some khakis for his baptism the next day (I had looked everywhere already), so we went to the Mall of America hoping to find some. After stopping at several stores, we finally found some that fit! He seemed to be feeling fine, so we went to Crave and got some sushi for supper. Sunday was the baptism. Tucker woke up feeling worse and sounding more wheezy, but after some Tylenol and a little time to wake up, he seemed pretty good. He was an angel while they poured the water over his head, and he would have played in the little fountain if I would have let him reach it. I should have expected that from our little water baby! We went out to brunch with all of Tucker's grandparents and then he and Daddy spent the day playing while I went to a good friends' baby shower (Tucker is excited for a new baby friend).
By Monday, Tucker was more stuffy, wheezy and less consolable so I was a little more worried, but by afternoon, he seemed a bit better again so we decided to wait to take him to the doctor. I worked Monday night, and talked to Jeremy on Tuesday morning when I got off. We decided that since Tucker wasn't any better that we should probably take him in to see the doctor. They were glad that we brought him in, but since he didn't appear to be in respiratory distress they told us to keep doing what we were doing (humidifier, Tylenol, extra sleep, etc.) and bring him back if he quit eating or began having difficulty breathing. The doctors said that these bugs would run their course in 5-7 days, but the wheezing could continue for a month. Wednesday was day 6 of the virus and Tucker was markedly improved. Grandma came to watch him for the morning while I slept a bit after another night shift. By Thursday, Tucker seemed to be acting like himself 95% of the time. We've gone through a lot of new parent milestones in the last year, but this is a good one to have behind us. Yesterday, Tucker even tried some oatmeal and more bananas. He gave me some funny faces, but I knew my little adventure bug was feeling better when he would at least try the new food. This weekend, we plan on laying low and spending some much needed famliy time together. Tucker will be trying some winter squash and a bath in the big tub if everything goes as planned. I'm also hoping to get a few more 6 month photos since he wasn't feeling good when we tried this week.
I'm not sure why some of these pictures are upside down, but I'm coming off a night shift and I can't muster the patience to figure it out. These first few are from earlier in the week when Tucker was still feeling good.

Miss Sharon at daycare said he is starting to look older and I think it has to do with all of that hair! |
He is always sucking in his bottom lip like this. |
He always seems to be deep in thought. |
It looks like he must have fallen down after this photo was shot, but he recovered his balance. He is amazingly strong! |
He's still fascinated by the kitties. He reaches out to grab them any chance he gets. |
His eyes seem to change color by the day from blue to green to brown to hazel. |
Mommy prepared the half birthday boy's special meal. |
There was a bit of miscommunication about who was supposed to pick him up from daycare. Jeremy and I had a moment of "where's the baby...I thought you were going to get him." In the end, he made it home just fine and judging from the smile, he didn't mind at all! |
A very happy half-birthday boy ready to eat some bananas! |
Daddy lighting half of the birthday candle (yes, I cut the candle in half). |
The plate was on the table and out of reach while the candle was lit. |
"Hmm...that looks good!" |
"I wonder if Mom would be offended if I spit it out." |
"Ok, let's try this again." |
"Yay, I'm such a big boy!" |
Here is Tucker getting baptized. He would much rather be playing in the fountain, though! |
He kept playing with the sticker on his shirt. |
He was not happy when I made him stop playing with the sticker. |
But he forgot what a mean Mommy I am when I gave him something else to play with. (This is a new behavior in the past week. He doesn't like to have toys taken away!) |
I couldn't get the lighting quite right in these pictures, so I might try again this week when he's feeling better. |
Still playing with his sticker. |
